Orioles Farm Report 6/17

June is in full swing and the Orioles farm's buzzing. Some really great performances, a few injuries and a AA debut-- plenty to discuss! Let's jump in

Norfolk Tides

Lost series with Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 2-4

-Jackson Holliday's our latest big name onto the IL, as the 20-year old hit the list with right elbow inflammation. It's deemed to be precautionary more then anything else, but not the news we were looking for out of Holliday

-Connor Norby returned from the big leagues on Thursday, proceeding to collect a hit in all four games he played while posting an improvable 9:2 K:BB ratio

-Solid week out of Heston Kjerstad, going 8-26 with a home run and 3 RBI. Prepare to hear his name swirling around trade rumors for the next six weeks

-That man Billy stayed Cookin' for Norfolk, going 9-22 overall with long balls Friday, Saturday and Sunday

-Daniel Johnson continued his streak of consistent hitting, posting a .272/1/7 line on the week

-Nice approach all series from Nick Maton, ripping .353 with a dinger and 7 walks

-Our guy Anthony Servideo got moved up to the Tides and didn't disappoint in his inaugural series, going 4-12 while cashing at least one hit in the three games he played

-Two earned over 5.1 from Jonathan Heasley. Not bad, he can stay in AAA

-Justin Armbruester surrendered 2 (1 earned) over 5 innings, a marked improvement upon recent starts. He walked and struck out 3

-Walks also hampered Chayce McDermott, who gave up 4 over 6.2 frames in a losing effort Thursday

-Brandon Young was locked in the following evening, earning his second decision win while allowing just 1 hit over 5 scoreless

-Trey McGough relieved Young on Friday, maneuvering through 3 shutout frames of his own

-Two scoreless relief innings out of 32-year old lefty Luis Gonzalez, lowering his ERA to an impressive 2.79

-Dean Kremer was pretty iffy during his rehab start Sunday, surrendering 5 runs (2 earned) over just 3.2

Bowie Baysox

Lost series with Harrisburg Senators 2-4

-Jud Fabian led the way for an offense that had some room for improvement this week, posting a .273/3/4 line

-Not too shabby a AA debut for Matthew Etzel, collecting a hit in each of his five appearances, good for a .278 average overall. He also stole a bag on 4 of the nights

-Multi-hit performances for TT Bowens in both games over the weekend, finishing what had been an iffy series on a high note

-Up and down week for Silas Ardoin, collecting two multi-hit games before wrapping things up with a golden sombrero

-Jonathan Rhodes rebounded from a cold couple of days with a 5-5 Sunday, including a 3-run home run and 6 RBI

-Alex Pham, Dan Hammer and Keagan Gillies combined for a 4-hit, 1-run evening on Tuesday, starting the series out strong. Pham had a particularly strong week, totaling 2 wins in 11 IP, with 14 strikeouts and just 3 earned runs

-Ryan Hennan boasted 3 scoreless relief appearances, while Dylan Heid and Morgan McSweeney posted 2 of their own. Heid's currently rocking a 0.95 ERA, not allowing an earned run since May 17th

-Trace Bright, 0-6 overall. I know a pitcher's record doesn't always indicate performance, but he'd probably like to notch one in that win column

-Nice bounce back for Ryan Brnovich, giving up 1 earned on 5 hits over 4 Friday

-Seth Johnson looked sharp once again this weekend, striking out 5 while surrendering 1 earned run on 2 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings of work

Aberdeen Ironbirds

Won series with Hickory Crawdads 4-2

-Enrique Bradfield Jr. and Coby Mayo led the game off Friday with back-to-back jacks. Sick moment to tie things up after the Crawdads put up a two-spot in the top of the first. They'd each collect 6 hits on the series, with 2 and 3 home runs each, respectively

-Third home run of the season for Tavian Josenberger Tuesday. He went 3/3 on the basepaths the following evening

-Jalen Vasquez had a solid series, going 5-19 with 4 RBI

-A cold May has blossomed into a scorching June for Randy Florentino. The 23-year old is batting .350 on the month, including 5-8 with 3 extra base hits in two games against Hickory

-ELIO! The kid had a knock in all 6 games, taking his current streak up to 8. Prado totaled 8 hits and drove in 4 on the series

-Second consecutive quality start out of Preston Johnson, giving up just 1 earned run on 4 hits in 4 IP Tuesday

-Edgar Portes racked up 7 strikeouts in just 4 innings worked, raising his K/9 up to 11.52 for the season

-Two wins in relief appearances for Cody Scroggins, throwing 2.2 frames while allowing just 1 unearned run

-Luis de Leon and Michael Forret combined to allow just 3 runs over 8 innings on Thursday. It's the most comfortable Forret has looked since coming up to Aberdeen

-4.1 shutout innings out of Zach Fruit on Friday, earning his second win of the year. He scattered a hit and 3 walks across the appearance

-Shoutout Deivi Cruz, Zane Barnhart, Logan Rinehart and Luis Sanchez for scoreless weeks out of the pen

Delmarva Shorebirds

Tied series with Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 3-3

-Best week we've seen out of Jake Cunningham, going 7-17 at the dish, plus 3 stolen bases and 1 RBI

-Sad to report I wasn't able to watch Aron Estrada in action last Saturday while in attendance! The 19-year old continued his hot June, posting a .316/1/4 line in 5 games

-Nice seeing Reed Trimble during his rehab stint. He went 5-18 and drove in two

-4-14 series out of Thomas Sosa. He's a fun player to watch in this Delmarva lineup

-Another really impressive week from Leandro Arias. He went 6-13 with a 5:1 BB:K ratio, 4 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Incredibly efficient work at the plate by a young prospect whose catching on quickly

-Angel Tejada was responsible for preventing a no-hitter from being thrown against the Shorebirds on Friday night, scoring the only run of the game as well

-Two solid starts out of Braxton Bragg to bookend the week. He totaled 7.2 IP, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 9

-Daniel Lloyd and Juan Rojas combined for 6 strikeouts over 6 scoreless on Wednesday, putting the team in place for a late victory

-What a night by Jacob Cravey, Trey Gibson and Jared Beck on Thursday, shutting out Kannapolis on just 5 hits. The trio combined to strikeout 16 Cannon Ballers

-A short but good start for Nestor German Friday, recording 5 of his 6 outs via strikeout

-Scoreless weeks of relief from Isaac Solano and Randy Beriguete, respectively tossing 1.1 and 1.2 innings each
