Fun week of ball down on the Orioles farm! Norfolk and Bowie each took their series, while Delmarva managed to split for the first time in 2024. Definitely some marked improvement from the Baby Birds down on the shore.
Let's look back at the minor league action:
Norfolk Tides
Won series vs. Nashville Sounds 4-2
-The Norfolk Four, 2.0:
-Jackson Holliday: 5-22, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 8 BB, 8 K
-Coby Mayo: 7-28, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 2 K-- long ball in the first three games, caught a golden sombrero Saturday
-Connor Norby: 5-24, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 5 BB, 13 K
-Kyle Stowers: 6-24, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 10 K
-Outfielder Daniel Johnson had a productive week at the dish, posting a .333/1/8 line in his five appearances
-Bruce Zimmermann kicked off the series proper for the Tides, going 5 scoreless while allowing just 4 baserunners and striking out 5
-Arguably the shakiest start of Cade Povich's season on Wednesday, with the lefty surrendering 1 earned over 6 six innings. Don't love the 4 walks, but he maneuvered through trouble well. Ace shit if this is as bad as his start's get
-No no, this isn't a misprint. Chayce McDermott did initiate the second no-hitter he's been a part of on Friday, absolutely dealing through 6.2! 2 walks and 11 strikeouts for the O's 8th ranked prospect, far and away his best start of 2024

-Nolan Hoffman has been a part of both of those aforementioned hitless outings now, providing 4 outs in relief of McDermott. Caleb Ort shut the door in the 9th
-Scoreless weeks out of relievers Luis Gonzalez, Matt Crook and Ort, pitching 3, 2 and 2 frames each, respectively
Bowie Baysox
Won series vs. Erie SeaWolves 3-2 (Sunday cancelled due to rain)
-The AA game is slowing down for Samuel Basallo and the stats are starting to accumulate, going 5-16 plus 2 bombs and 7 RBI. He's up to .263/5/15 on the season, but majority of that production has come in the last few weeks
-Dylan Beavers stayed angry at the plate, ripping .267 with a long ball and 4 driven in his 4 games
-A slightly under-the-radar name to really keep an eye on is Jud Fabian. The 2nd round competitive balance pick from '22 has always boasted elite power, but lacked the regular contact needed to cut it on the next level. He posted a .200/2/3 line this week-- hopefully the beginning to some more consistent hitting
-Bowie's been really good to TT Bowens, collecting a hit in every game he played to keep his average at .324 overall. He added his 4th homer of the year on Thursday evening

-Our guy Anthony Servideo's been grinding and finally got the big week he was looking for, going 6-12 with 2 dingers and 3 RBI
-What a debut for Cameron Weston, pitching 4 shutout relief innings in his Wednesday appearance, racking up 8 K's along the way. He'll be up in Norfolk before long if he keeps this up
-Kyle Brnovich also stayed sharp on Friday, also providing 4 scoreless with 8 strikeouts while helping secure his first decision victory
-Commendable weeks from relievers: Kade Strowd (2.2 IP, 1-0), Trey McGough (2 IP, 4 K), Trey Virbitsky (2 IP) and Nick Richmond (2 IP), all without allowing a run
Aberdeen Ironbirds
Lost series vs. Brooklyn Cyclones 2-4
-ELIO! Prado had himself a solid series, going 7-22 on the road trip, adding 4 RBI
-Definitely some concerns regarding the Ironbirds' bats early on here. Enrique Bradfield (.216), Tavian Josenberger (.197), Mac Horvath (.173), Carter Young (.104) have all struggled mightily to make regular contact. Still plenty of time to figure things out, we're just used to more positive updates around this farm recently
-Matthew Etzel's still that guy though, posting a .304 average on the week while driving in one. Quiet week at the plate overall for Aberdeen, only mustering one long ball and 17 runs in six games
-Moises Chace and Juan Nunez are becoming a really solid tandem as an opener-reliever, combining to allow just 3 hits and 1 run over 8.2 innings Wednesday, and 12 strikeouts on top of the effort
-Yaqui Rivera stayed sharp as well on the bump, earning the decision win Chace and Nunez set him up with in extras. His ERA currently sits at a clean 0.93
-Tough break for Zach Fruit Thursday, catching an L after a really respectable start. Last year's 9th rounder allowed 1 unearned run and struck out 7 through 5 innings, as the Ironbirds fell 2-0
-Edgar Portes didn't allow a run in his 3 innings this week, giving up 1 hit and 3 walks while racking up 5 K's
Delmarva Shorebirds
Tied series vs. Fayetteville Woodpeckers 3-3
-Maxwell Costes made his presence known during his rehab stint down on the Shore, batting .471 with 4 runs driven in on the week. See you back up in Aberdeen soon
-Angel Tejada showed out at the dish as well, going 5-18 plus 5 RBI and 3 stolen bases
-Nice series out of Aron Estrada, with the infielder posting a .250 batting average with 4 RBI and 4 steals
-This Delmarva pitching though, really dialed in! Ty Weatherly was awesome Wednesday, going 4 scoreless innings with 1 hit and 7 strikeouts. Fayetteville was having a really tough time getting any solid contact off the undrafted righty
-10 strikeouts for Luis de Leon on Thursday, although he doubled his earned runs allowed on the year by letting 3 score in his 4.2 innings
-Michael Forret's going to need a promotion here soon. 4 more scoreless frames, surrendering just 1 hit and a walk while striking out 7
-Got to see Nestor German in person Saturday and he did not disappoint. One unearned run on a single hit over 4.2 strong, plus 8 K's
-Since a shaky first appearance, Braxton Bragg's been absolutely incredible out of the pen. 4 more shutout innings in relief of German to seal the win
-Got to give a little shine to the other Shorebirds' middle relievers too! Alejandro Mendez didn't allow an earned run over 2.2 frames, while Randy Beriguete and Brayner Salazar held the Woodpeckers off the board through their 3 IP
