Happy Memorial Day y'all! Want to first send a thank you out to all those who've served and helped make/protect the country we have before us today. May your days be relaxing and full of time with family and friends.
Onto this little family we have on the farm. Not the finest work across the board, but plenty of positives to dwell on. Let's look back Birdland
Norfolk Tides
Won series with Somerset Red Sox 5-1
The Norfolk Four:
-Jackson Holliday: 5-22, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, 7 BB, 9 K
-Heston Kjerstad: 11-21, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R, 5 BB, 4 K
-Connor Norby: 8-25, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R, 1 BB, 12 K
-Coby Mayo: Still nursing some ribs
-Nick Maton continued his hot streak at the plate, collecting a hit in all 5 of his appearances, including 2 home runs. He boasted a team-leading 6 RBI on the series
-Didn't see a ton of Hudson Haskin, but he shined in his opportunities, going 4-9 at the dish with an RBI and 3 walks
-An 8-30 week from Billy Cook, including 3 multi-hit games. He's been a really consistent contributor on this offense since coming up from Bowie
-Big nights out of Terrin Vavra on Friday (2-3, HR, 5 RBI) and Daniel Johnson Saturday (4-4, 3 RBI)
-10 strikeout night for Chayce McDermott on Wednesday, taking him up to an absurd 14.02 K/9 on the year

-Garrett Stallings was traded over the weekend to the Brewers for recently optioned righty Thaygo Vieira and 19 year-old RHP Aneuris Rodriguez. The O's acquired Stallings from the Angels in 2020 for Jose Iglesias. Jean Pinto also came over in that trade
-Two more scoreless innings out of Matt Krook, lowering his season ERA to 1.59
-Trey McGough was solid in his two relief appearances, allowing just one solo homer over 5.1 frames
-As pedestrian a start as you'll get from Cade Povich, with the lefty giving up 3 earned over 6 with 6 K's. Really have to wonder when Elias gives him the call
Bowie Baysox
Lost series with Richmond Flying Squirrels 1-5
-Bowie mustered just 2 hits in their sole victory on the week, a 2-1 win on Thursday
-Samuel Basallo is finding his rhythm at the plate, which is bad news for opposing pitchers. He posted a .400/2/6 line in 20 at bats. His home run Friday was an absolute missile, clearing the right field fence with a 115 MPH exit velocity
-TT Bowens collected exactly one hit in every game this series, going 6-25 overall
-2 dingers in 5 appearances for Dylan Beavers, bringing his total up to 7 on the season
-Silas Ardoin split time behind home and at DH, going 5-18 with a long ball and 4 driven in
-Another decent line at the dish from Johnny Rhodes, collecting 5 hits to get his average over the Mendoza line
-Horrible string of outings from Baysox pitchers, allowing 46 runs on the series, good for 7.7 a game
-Thursday was one strong day on the mound, opened with 5 quality innings out of Seth Johnson. The righty struck out 6 and gave up 1 earned. Carlos Tavera, Dylan Heid and Nick Richmond took it from there, surrendering just 5 baserunners the rest of the way while the offense managed to pull off the comeback late
-Saturday was a sharp tag team effort from Cameron Weston and Ryan Long. The two combined to give up 4 hits and 2 ER in a 2-0 defeat. Bowie had 8 hits on the evening, but just couldn't push anyone across to reward their efforts
Aberdeen Ironbirds
Tied series with Jersey Shore Blue Claws 3-3
-Our thoughts are with Moises Chace. The Ironbirds' star pitcher had to be stretchered off of the field Friday after a scary collision while trying to cover first base. He's been released from the hospital since, with the injury being ruled a concussion. He'll miss a little bit of time on the 7-day IL
-It was only a matter of time until Enrique Bradfield Jr.'s bat really got going, seems like it may have arrived. 8-23 on the series plus 3 RBI and 4/6 on stolen bases for the kid. If he can keep this bat warm, we've got a real weapon in the making
-His equally speedy teammate Tavian Josenberger stayed hot at the plate too, going 7-21 with 2 stolen bases, plus a golden sombrero on Wednesday
-Matthew Etzel posted a respectable .278/1/3 line on the week, dipping his average down to .299-- the first time it's been below .300 since the end of April
-Other than Etzel, the only two long balls on the week came from Elio Prado and Mac Horvath, their 3rd each
-I guess he was due for a down series, but that was an icy one for Creed Willems. 0-18...much better days ahead
-Bradley Brehmer was lockdown, totaling 3.2 shutout innings and a save over 2 appearances, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks
-Strong performance from Jackson Baumeister Wednesday, lasting a scoreless 4.2 with 7 K's
-Solid first start at A+ ball for Luis de Leon, surrendering one earned over 4.1 on 4 hits + a walk. The lefty notched 4 strikeouts
-Levi Wells got back on track Thursday, striking out 5 over 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks
-Best appearance of Preston Johnson's season, walking 2 during a hitless, scoreless 3.2 frames
-Edgar Portes improved his record to 3-0 after 6 innings of shutout ball on Saturday. He'll finish the month of May without a run surrendered and just 5 hits allowed over 17.2 IP
-Top reliever of the series was Deivi Cruz, earning a save in 1 of 2 appearances, maneuvering through 2.1 without allowing a run
Delmarva Shorebirds
Lost series with Columbia Fireflies 2-4
-Thomas Sosa was on fire vs. Columbia, going 8-19 from the leadoff spot, hitting 1 home run and scoring 5 times
-Leandro Arias made his presence known during his first week back from the Florida Complex, collecting a hit in each of his 5 starts-- good for 6 total
-First multi-home run game of Aneudis Mordan's career on Wednesday night, raising his batting average 15 points on the series
-Anderson de los Santos managed just 4 hits during the homestand, but he made the most of them, hitting 2 out of the park and driving in 5
-8 hits, including a dinger, and 4 RBI for Stiven Acevedo in just 4 games. Gonna be seeing a lot more of him if those numbers keep up
-Kevin Guerrero delivered game winning single in extras Friday, a game we attended! The 20-year old outfielder had 2 hits in each of the 3 games over the weekend
-Eccel Correa was dominant in his second start for Delmarva, surrendering 4 scoreless hits over 5 innings
-Michael Forret was back to form on Tuesday, going 5 shutout frames of his own with 5 K's. His encore Sunday was not as sharp, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned) over 3.2
-Brilliant joint-shutout we got to witness Friday. Trey Gibson, Jacob Cravey, Harif Frias and Isaac Solano combined to allow just 6 hits and 6 walks through 10 innings, adding 9 strikeouts. A really commendable group showing
