Another productive week overall for the Baby Birds down on the farm, with all affiliates tying or winning their six game series. Let's dive into the details of what got us there:
Norfolk Tides
Won series with Memphis Redbirds 4-2
The Norfolk Four:
-Jackson Holliday: 8-23, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 8 R, 7 BB, 4 K
-Coby Mayo: 5-25, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB, 4 K
-Connor Norby: 6-14, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 2 K, left game early on Friday with a wrist injury. It hasn't been deemed serious by the team, so hopefully he'll be back in the diamond sooner than later
-Kyle Stowers: 3-17, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 4 K
-Nick Maton had himself a week, highlighted by a 5 hit Friday. Overall, the journeyman went 9-23 with 2 long balls and 9 RBI
-6 hits and 3 earned through 5 innings for Cade Povich Tuesday. Not his best work, but more then enough to secure the win. Sunday was a very similar start, giving up 8 hits and 3 ER in 4.1. He totaled 12 strikeouts
-Nice to see Dillon Tate maneuver 2 scoreless frames. The big league team would benefit from his return to an effective level
-It wasn't a no hitter, but quite a midweek outing by Chayce McDermott. He lasted 5 frames, striking out 8 while surrendering 2 runs
-Justin Armbruester notched his first decision victory on Wednesday, allowing 3 to score through 6 strong, walking 2 and striking out 5
-Tucker Davidson was the top reliever of the week, keeping the Redbirds off the scoreboard in his 3.2 frames
Bowie Baysox
Tied series with Akron Rubber Ducks 3-3
-Always fun to have a big name down in AA for a rehab stint. Austin Hays put on a show for the Sox, going 5-14 with 2 dingers and 5 RBI in his abbreviated stay
-Jud Fabian mashed in the series opener, going 4-5 while driving in 5 on 2 home runs. He'd finish the week with a .389/2/7 line

-Mr. Bowens stayed sharp at the dish, collecting hits in 6 of his 16 at bats. He drove in 2 and scored twice as well
-It wasn't the fireworks we're used to seeing, but a really steady series out of Samuel Basallo. The 20-year old posted a hit in 5 of the 6 games and also collected 4 walks
-Alex Pham was dialed in Tuesday, throwing 5 innings of 1 hit ball + 6 strikeouts en route to his first decision win of 2024. Sunday's encore was a little shakier, exiting after 4.2 with a 1.71 WHIP, but he left Bowie in a position to win-- which they managed to do. Best week of his season
-Trace Bright is easily one of the more under the radar talent's in this organization. 3 hits and 2 walks allowed over 4.2 scoreless frames on Thursday, taking his ERA below 3.00. He's done it at every level so far, with some nice strikeout numbers to boot (12.48 K/9 career). Keep an eye on this kid
-Solid showing from Brandon Young the following evening, surrendering just 1 earned in his 3.1 innings of work. The offense didn't manage to score however, resulting in Young taking the L for his efforts
-Shutout shoutouts to Dylan Heid (3.2, 1-0, 1 SV), Houston Roth (3.1), Ryan Watson (2.1), Ryan Hennen (2.1) and Nick Richmond (1.2) for each having multiple scoreless appearances out of the pen. That's how you stay in a series when your bats' aren't at their best
Aberdeen Ironbirds
Won series vs. Hudson Valley Renegades 5-1
-Terrin Vavra's back into the fold, spending three days down with the Ironbirds. He went 4-13 with 2 driven in during his stint
-Nice getting Enrique Bradfield Jr. back for a full series. The speedster collected 5 hits and 5 stolen bases in 5 games, upping his average to .235
-Max Wagner had himself a big week, going 5-18 with a long ball and 2 RBI. Hopefully he can carry that momentum back up to Bowie
-Super encouraging string of performances out of Mac Horvath, hitting .385 with a dinger and a 2:4 K:BB ratio
-The notion of Tavian Josenberger's bat getting hot is an exciting one. He's a terror on the base paths, with 20 stolen bags on 22 attempts, and finally boosted his average over the Mendoza line. Throw in his first home run of 2024 and we'd say it was a good week
-Moises Chace was steady and reliable as always for Aberdeen, totaling 6.2 over 2 starts, allowing just 1 earned run on 10 hits with 10 K's
-Our guy Bradley Brehmer went a scoreless 2.2 frames Thursday, striking out 6 of the 9 batters he faced. Nice
-It hasn't been the best start for Levi Wells' season, but he was excellent Saturday. The 2023 4th rounder notched 7 strikeouts in 4 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits and 3 walks
-Edgar Portes stayed sharp in relief, allowing just 4 baserunners in his 3.2 of work, plus 6 K's
-Deivy Cruz and Juan de los Santos were each formidable out of the pen, racking up 5 scoreless appearances between them
Delmarva Shorebirds
Tied series vs. Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 3-3
-Is that the summer heat coming on or was Aron Estrada that scorching? The 19-year old went 10-23 at the plate while driving in 4, swiping 2 bags and striking out just twice
-Angel Tejada started out the series hot as well, collecting 7 hits (including a homer) in the first 4 games at Kannapolis. He'd go 0-4 on the weekend, but he's continued to show promise
-Corner infielder Anderson de los Santos parked two solo bombs over the outfield fence Wednesday as part of a 4-5 night
-4 hits in 4 games for Thomas Sosa, including his first dinger of '24. He'd wrap up the series with a .308/1/1 line, plus 4 free passes
-Braylin Tavera only played in 3 games, but he made his mark felt, going 6-12 with a homer and 4 RBI
-Shoutout Stiven Acevedo for hitting a solo dinger for the Shorebirds on Saturday, preventing a no hitter and shutout
-Ty Weatherly continued his strong pitching, allowing 2 hits, 5 walks and 1 earned run in 4 innings of relief work
-Luis de Leon was lockdown Wednesday, nothing new for Delmarva. 4 innings, no earned runs, 3 total baserunners and 6 K's-- not a bad day on the ole bump. Aberdeen should be calling soon
-Best week of Jared Beck's season thus far, surrendering no runs as he racked up 6 strikeouts in 3.1 innings of relief work
-Grabiel Salazar was equally strong out of the pen, giving up just 1 hit over his 2.1 scoreless frames
Thoughts from Elsewhere
-Nice seeing Cesar Prieto playing well for St. Louis' AAA affiliate. He went 6-20 with a homer and 3 RBI against our Tides as he continues to make a push for the Cardinals' big league roster
