After knocking off the Braves in an exciting NLDS, the Phillies change roles from underdog to favorite as they prepare to play against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLCS. The 2023 Diamondbacks are in many ways reminiscent of the 2022 Phillies, having won just 84 games in the regular season and narrowly earning a playoff berth as the #6 seed.
Arizona is a young team playing their best baseball and using their underdog status as motivation. Also, similar to the ‘22 Phillies, they have a bonafide 1-2 punch at the top of their pitching rotation with Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. The D-backs have yet to lose a playoff game, going 2-0 in the Wild Card series against the Brewers and 3-0 against the Dodgers.
