For this week's minor league spotlight, we'll dive into the Red Sox farm system, specifically looking at their #6 prospect Blaze Jordan. A powerful prospect from Southaven, Jordan has long been on scouts radars, committing to playing college baseball at Mississippi State while just in the eighth grade. He progressed through varsity ball batting a cumulative line of .440/19/98 in his four seasons (MaxPreps).

In May of 2019, Blaze officially reclassified to graduate a year early, making him eligible for the 2020 amateur draft. Weighing in at 6'2", 218 fresh out of high school, this was a big kid with ample room to fill out. He had also received years of tutelage under famed coach Tim Dulin, exposing him to high quality instruction and showing his commitment to receiving it (Forbes).

With many teams fearing his long-standing commitment to Mississippi State, the elite power prospect slipped to the 89th pick in the 2020 draft. It was there that the Boston Red Sox made him a part of the organization, signing the third round selection to a $1,750,000 million dollar bonus.

After sitting out the remainder of the 2020 due to the COVID-cancelled minor league season, the Red Sox assigned Jordan to rookie ball. He only lasted 19 games down in Florida, slashing .362/4/19 until his promotion to the low-A Salem Red Sox (MiLB.com). The 6'2" hot corner hit for .250 and two home runs in the nine games after the bump up in competition. Unfortunately, he suffered a wrist injury at the beginning of August 2021 which shut him down for the rest of the year.

The Red Sox elected to keep Jordan in Salem to start this season and he has given them reason to be excited. Blaze is currently ripping .2857with eight homers, 49 RBI and an OBP of .356. He's also won the Carolina League Player of the Week award twice. We got to see him play down in Delmarva two or three times this year, and while he didn't do any spectacular with on the field during those games, he was a really nice dude took the time to interact with the fans.

Given his success at Salem, I would not be surprised if a promotion to Greenville was on the horizon for the 19 year old before the end of this season. Being a younger prospect, it's possible that Boston chooses not to rush him through the system, but I think at this point Jordan's proven to be a very solid- if not elite- low A talent. A taste of the rise in competition would be good for him to make appropriate adjustments during his offseason training. We'll see what the organization ends up doing, but it's been a fun ride so far for this explosive young player as he rises through the ranks toward Fenway.
